Grips with or without holes? Which is better?

Many of you often ask us which type of grips are better: those with holes or those without. In this post, we are going to explain the differences and which ones are best suited to each person's needs. Which is better: hand grips with holes or without?

What are grips and what are they for?

Grips are an accessory for protecting the hands in Cross Training. They are used in exercises where friction is intense, to prevent the appearance of calluses and injuries.

Grips cover the palm of the hand and have holes for 2 or 3 fingers. A recent trend is to not use the holes in grips, resulting in grips without holes. Grips are also fastened to the wrist area and adapt to each person, providing support and protection and offering extra safety.

If you want to learn more about the types of hand grips, how to wash them, and how to use them, you can read our post Cross Training Grips: what are they, what are they for, how to choose them, and how to use them.

Grips with holes

Grips with holes usually have 2 or 3 holes through which the fingers are inserted. Choosing one version over the other will depend on individual comfort. As a general rule, people with larger hands will prefer a 3-hole grip and those with smaller hands will be more comfortable with a 2-hole grip. But, like everything else, everybody’s preference will be different and that is also true when it comes to grips.

The best grip to choose depends largely on the person who is going to use it. Check out the following table to see the models and characteristics of our grips with holes.

Advantages of grips with holes

  1. You can choose whether to use the finger holes or not. This way you have a 2in1 model. There are exercises that require contact, such as ring exercises, where it is more advisable to use grips with holes.
  1. You can make a fold. By inserting your fingers, you can make a fold right where calluses usually form. That way you will have greater protection against friction.
  1. You have more sizes available, from S to XL, and models.

Grips without holes

As mentioned above, the new trend of not putting your fingers in the grips has given rise to a new type of grip without holes. This new type of grip allows the fingers to be free and there is no contact between the bar and the palm of the hand.

Our version of the no-holes grip is the Golden Eagle Grip. It is a grip created for the most demanding athletes. The surface of the palm is larger to offer greater protection, as is the wristband, which is thicker for greater support and comfort.

Advantages of grips without holes:

  1. Faster transitions. By not having your fingers in the holes, the transitions between exercises are quicker.
  1. Wider wrist area. New, wider Velcro with a larger, reinforced buckle for greater support, protection, and comfort.
